Lest we forget our quest:

We search for Mishe-Nahma - the King of Fishes

Submitted by Frank Johnson

On a rainy afternoon one day with nothing else to do,
Rich was re-reading his White Plains High School
English notes and found the following Fishy Story
reference:

Hiawatha

A poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 1807-1882

Chapter VIII-Hiawatha’s Fishing

“Forth upon the Gitche Gumee,

On the shining Big-Sea-Water,

With his fishing-line of cedar,

Of the twisted bark of cedar,

Forth to catch the sturgeon Nahma,

Mishe-Nahma, King of Fishes,

In his birch canoe exulting

All alone went Hiawatha.”

We’ve been fishing for Mishe-Nahma ever since. The
closest we got was Chuck’s arm wrestled Walleye that
got away in ‘94. Chuck thinks he got the big one at
Big Pike Lake.

We all know Mishe-Nahma is still waiting to be caught.
